The Union cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, these days gave its approval for launching of the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) with its core and versatile parts.

The projected Mission can address the gaps in health services through supporting the efforts of State/UT Governments for providing AYUSH health services/education within the country, significantly in vulnerable and far-flung areas. under NAM special focus are going to be given for specific wants of such areas and for allocation of upper resources in their Annual Plans. The Mission can facilitate in:

1. the development of AYUSH education through enhancement within the number of upgraded educational institutions;

2. higher access to AYUSH services through increase in variety of AYUSH hospitals and dispensaries, availability of drugs and manpower;

3. providing sustained availability of quality raw material for AYUSH systems of medicine; and

iv. rising handiness of quality Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani and medical care (ASU& H) medication through increase in variety of pharmacies, drug laboratories and improved enforcement mechanism of ASU & H medication.


India possess an unmatched heritage represented by its ancient systems of medication like ASU & H that are a treasure house of data for preventive and encouraging care. The positive options of the Indian systems of medicine particularly their diversity and flexibility; accessibility; affordability, a broad acceptance by a large section of the overall public; relatively lesser price and growing measure, have nice potential to create them suppliers of care that the big sections of our people need.
